Samina Iqbal, a talented singer who made her mark during her last performance here some time back, will be the highlight of the event which will also feature world famous drummer Zulfiqar alias Papoo Dholi and renowned comedian Mastana on August 18 at Dr A.Q. Khan Hall of Pakistan School Muscat. Entry will be through invitations. “This is the first step to a whole lot of events Pakistan Social Club is planning to organise in order to showcase Pakistani culture as well as providing entertainment to our community members,” PSC general secretary Arshad Ali Khan told Times of Oman yesterday. Samina’s last performance was designed to pay tribute to late Noor Jehan, the melody queen of Pakistan but this time around she will be singing other hit ghazals and songs. Her melodious voice will also serve to revive the magic, the people, of the subcontinent can’t seem to forget even after the death of that legendary Pakistani singer. Samina, who is a winner of Pakistan Television Award, National Award and Bolan Award, remains perhaps the only singer who was allowed to sing Noor Jehan’s songs in her life by the great singer herself. “Though not very popular like some of the more established names in Pakistan, Samina is a highly talented singer, fully trained to do justice to the nuances of singing light classical songs, ghazals and those ever green songs sung by Madam (Noor Jehan),” added Arshad. This time she will have a special session to sing the audience’s choicest songs and ghazals. Papoo Dholi, who has attained international fame in a very short span of time, is likely to make his mark in what will be a unique performance. “He has created a unique method of playing traditional Punjabi drum known as ‘dhol’ combined with fusion of modern orchestra, creating all the beats and tunes with two sticks. A number of his fusions are regularly played on TV channels of both Pakistan and India,” said Arshad. Another big attraction of the show will be Mastana’s performance which is going to draw peels of laughter from the audience. One of the most popular and busiest comedians of Lahore, Mastana has become an integral part of the city’s stage plays and theatre. Apart from being a gifted artiste, Mastana is known for his wonderful mimicry of famous artistes. He can also entertain and amuse his audience with a wide array of jokes and skits. What more, he can also sing Punjabi folk songs like a true singer. </TD></TR></T></TABLE>
