Faakhir: No smoking
Marking the World No Tobacco Day, Faakhir was recently appointed as ambassador for tobacco control in Pakistan. “Music is a driver of emotions, and it works if you strike the right chord. I am convinced that I can play a positive role in preventing the youth of Pakistan from falling victim to the machinations of the tobacco industry,” he said, adding that he plans to release a song, Jiye Ja, as part of his campaign against smoking and drugs, and also to increase awareness among youth about maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
An MoU was signed in this regard between the Federal Minister for Health, Mohammad Nasir Khan and Faakhir in Islamabad, with the World Health Organization chief in Pakistan also present at the occasion.
The minister said that it was his understanding that as a role model, Faakhir would be successful in dissuading youth from the use of tobacco. It was also announced that the ministry is clamping stricter restrictions on tobacco advertisement as part of a renewed initiative for a smoke-free environment. It also plans to discourage the setting up of designated smoking areas.
